Ben is the first ram I picked out for my flock. I visited half a dozen farms until I found him, and I knew he was the one. Halter trained from his preparation as a show lamb for the Tunbridge World’s Fair, Ben is a gentle, loving soul – though yes, as a ram, I am careful to watch where he is and make sure he minds his manners. But mostly he comes up for a hug, and I get to check the growth progress of his lovely gray fleece. Ben is a Romney cross, with that wavy longwool quality.
Frank is a Corriedale cross ram from Nebraska, who joined the Tuuli flock in the fall of 2022. He was quite shy for the first several months, but after hanging out with Ben and the relaxed and friendly wethers, he realized that back rubs from the shepherd feel pretty great.
This year I tried something different: I requested that Ben and Frank's wool be carded separately but pindrafted together before spinning for this subtly dappled, light chocolate colored yarn.
